Glenolden Cowl
Pick two highly contrasting colors and watch the bold graphic design of Glenolden emerge as you knit. This is a “choose your own adventure” knitting project: you choose what type of cast on (provisional or standard) and joining method (grafting or sewing) to use, and you can vary the number of repeats you work of each chart to create a unique accessory.
The Glenolden Cowl is knit in the round in a tube, so it’s reversible and all the ends are hidden inside.
The seven row chart is easy to follow, making this a good project for everyone from the color work beginner to the more advanced. Note: The 14-stitch chart is repeated 9 times. Thanks to GFTC for making this clarification.
The directions are for one size (approx. 9” wide and 30” circumference, measurements taken after joining and blocking with the cowl laid flat), but you can easily change the size by adding or taking away repeats. This will, of course, change the amount of yarn used.
You will need:
* 270 yards each of two different colors of fingering weight
yarn
- US size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” circular needle
- Stitch marker
- Waste yarn for provisional cast on (if used)
- Yarn needle
The sample shown is worked in Merino Superwash Sock Twist by Cloudborn Fibers, 80% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Polyamide, 467 yds/427 m, 3.5 oz/100 g, Slate Heather (Color A) and Maize Heather (Color B).
