Inspired by the work of influential designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, this bottom-up triangular shawl is worked flat, and all in one piece.

The single rose motif is set amongst clean lines, geometric patterns and large expanses of stockinette and garter stitch which will work beautifully with any subtly variegated laceweight yarn.

Please note - due to the complex nature of this design, the pattern is offered in charted form only. All techniques and stitches are fully described in words but there are no row-by-row written directions, so chart-reading skills are required.

• 3.25 mm (US 3) needles (long circulars recommended)
• Tapestry needle

• Standard lace incs and decs, e.g. yo, ssk, k2tog, sl1k2psso
• Estonian-style increases, e.g. 3-into-3, 3-into-5, etc (explained in pattern)

When knitted to the given gauge, the finished shawl will measure 48 inches (122 cm) across the neck edge, and 20 inches (51 cm) from neck edge to bottom point, after blocking. Instructions and estimated yardages are given for making a bigger shawl, by repeating the last 2 rows of the pattern.
