The Give and Take socks came about when I was knitting swatches of different stitch patterns. I wondered what the effect would be if you added or took away a round of knit stitches between the lace rounds. Using the same 8 rounds of lace, you can achieve two quite different looking socks. The Give socks have a round of knit stitches worked between each round of lace, creating lace ribbons climbing the sock. The Take socks, where the rounds of knit stitches are removed and you simply knit the lace rounds, creates pretty curves of lace. The 8 (or 16) round pattern is easy to memorise, and because the lace gives the sock some stretch, it can easily fit a medium or large adult foot. If you want to knit them for a smaller foot size, I would suggest going down a needle size. I hope you have fun with this pattern.
