This is a basic raglan sweater in a wonderfully textured stitch pattern, which I call the sprouted seed stitch. The sweaterful of sprouted seeds then became Germination! I created the original sample sweater to showcase a beautiful variety of greenish shades of Cestari’s Monticello Collection DK 3-ply yarn. Choose your own color palette of two or more colors and explore the endless possibilities!

Note This is the worsted-weight cousin of Germination sweater sport pattern. Other than a slight difference in recommended ease (less for the lighter, more for the thicker versions), the two patterns also feature a different look of the raglan lines.
Get both sport and worsted versions of the Germination sweater for the discounted price of $15. No coupon needed, discount is automatically applied at checkout.

Note Monticello Collection DK may be called a DK yarn, but it behaves more like a worsted weight. You can make a functional swatch by making a Sprouted Seeds Cowl.

Skills This pattern is suitable for the adventurous beginner or intermediate knitter. Besides cast on, bind off, knitting, purling, and slipping stitches, you will only need to do basic shaping in the raglan yoke and arms, which is done by left and right slanting increases and decreases. You should also keep track of color progressions unless you choose to make the sweater in MC and CC that are fixed throughout.

Sizing and fit This is a pattern for a children’s sweater, ages approximately 2 (4, 6, 8) (10, 12, 14) years old. Chest measurements of the finished garment are 26 (27 3/4, 30 1/4, 32) (33 3/4, 35 1/4, 37)“ / 66.5 (70.5, 77, 81.5)(85.5, 90, 94)cm. The sweater is intended to be worn with ease of 4-6in/10-15cm.

Yarn A worsted weight yarn in two or more contrasting colors. In total, you will need approximately 422 (488, 552, 641) (710, 796, 846)yd/386 (446, 505, 586) (649, 728, 774)m of MC, and 260 (310, 360, 427) (481, 548, 586)yd/238 (284, 329, 390) (440, 501, 536)m of CC.
The sample was made in size 8, using Monticello Collection DK Tansy (1 skein), Plantation Green (2 skeins), Sheep Pasture (2 skeins), and Tufton Green (1 skein).

Other supplies Gauge-size and sub-gauge size needles for circular knitting at various circumferences. I used 3.75mm and 3mm, respectively; 9 stitch markers (one of which should be different from the others, 2 stitch holders (such as a length of non-sticky scrap yarn), tapestry yarn for weaving in ends and for an optional sewn bind off.

Gauge 19 sts and 44 rows to 4’’/10cm in Sprouted Seed stitch pattern
