The Modern Bloomsbury collection is inspired by the group of intellectual women writers and philosophers that made up the Bloomsbury group in the 1900s, based just around the corner from our LoveCrafts HQ! Cheryl Eaton’s inspiration for the beautiful Georgette Shawl comes from a painted door at the Bloomsbury group’s retreat outside London; the door was painted by Vanessa Bell, in stripes and floral motifs that are beautifully reflected in the colours and textures of this fabulous shawl.

INSPIRATION
This wrap is inspired by Charleston house and the artwork of Georgette Chen, a pioneering Singapore artist. Chen was one of the founders of the Nanyang art style which is frequently characterised as a hybrid art form combining Asian themes and Western art techniques.

The shawl is made up of three pieces and features soft, muted stripes at the bottom, and a large, simple lace triangle at the top.

CONSTRUCTION
The shawl begins with the longer, narrower rectangle. Garter stitch stripes are knit, and this first piece is then bound off. Stitches are picked up along the long edge to knit the second rectangle which is worked in the same way.

Once the square is complete, stitches are picked up along the top edge to work the triangle in a simple garter and lace pattern.
