Its time for the fourth and final pattern in the Minilicious Pattern club and this time we are dabbling with the stranded colourwork technique … don’t let that scare you off, this pattern has lots of soothing garter stitch and colourful stripes at the start and end bookending the fun colourwork in the middle. The colourwork is a fun geometric Knit Stitch looking design making it a great beginners project as it is very clear if you accidentally make a mistake in the pattern.
This cowlette starts knitted back and forth flat, with some standard triangular shawl shaping for the first section. Then you join your work in the round and start the colour work portion of the cowlette. The final part of this project is a deep garter stitch border that is worked in the round without any purling!
As there is some stranded colourwork in this design I wanted to include some resources for you to look over to learn about colour dominance and the best way to knit your colourwork so the contrast colours in the pattern really pop!

What you will need:
• Yarn – Total amount of 130gm Fingering weight yarn (approx. 365m/400 yds per 100gm); Yarn used in the sample is by Junk Yarn on the Boss Sock base (80/20 Superwash Merino / Nylon). The Main Colour used was the Hypatia Colourway and the Contrast Colours were from the Warriors & Legends Mini set (note only 5 out of the 6 colours in this set were used for the cowl).
The cowl used approximately 70gm of the Main Colour and a total of 60gm in the Contrast Colours.
• Needles – 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) & 4mm (US6) 16” circulars for knitting in the round.
• Gauge – Approximately 28 sts / 4 inch in colourwork pattern after blocking on 3.75mm (US5) needles and in stockinette/garter stitch after blocking on 3.5mm (US4) needles.
• Size – The cowl is 19in (48cm) in circumference at the top and 48in (122cm) in circumference at the bottom, and is 20in (51cm) deep at the front.
• Notions - 1 Stitch Marker for marking the beginning of the round and 3 additional markers for marking increases. A tapestry needle for weaving in ends and grafting.
