“Genzianella” is part of the collection of patterns inspired by the “Monti Pallidi” (Pale Mountains), a chain of mountains in the Italian Dolomites.
“Genzianella” (botanical name, gentiana acaulis) is a rare, blue flower that grows in meadows at high altitudes in the Dolomite Mountains. In ancient times, this plan was gathered and used for medicinal purposes.
Legend tells us that during a long period of drought, a shepherd and his little daughter were dying of thirst. The shepherd implored the heavens for help, and the clouds were so moved that they started to rain; but the poor man and his daughter had nothing to catch the rain in and drink it! The tiny blue flower took pity on them and decided to close its petals in what is now its characteristic shape, thus allowing the shepherd and his daughter to use it as a goblet to drink the water.

“Genzianella” is a small poncho worked top down.
It has a turtle neck and is decorated with two lace patterns reminiscent of the plant which inspired the model.

Lanecardate LAMORA: 75% Merino and 25% Angora (180 m – 197 yards / 50 gr – 1.76 ounces); 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) skeins (645, 720, 810, 885, 1000 m – 705, 787.5, 886, 968, 1095.5 yards).
Circular needle:
size 3.5 mm – US 4 with 40 and 60 cm – 16” and 24” cable.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Other notions:
2 stitch markers.
Tapestry needle.

Gauge:
23 sts x 33 rows = 10 cm – 4” in st st (worked in the round, before blocking).
22 sts x 33 rows = 10 cm – 4” in st st (worked in the round, after blocking).

“Genzianella” fa parte della collezione ispirata ai “Monti Pallidi”, la catena montuosa delle Dolomiti italiane.
La Genzianella è un raro fiore blu che cresce nei prati ad alta quota delle Dolomiti. Anticamente questa pianta veniva raccolta ed usata come medicinale.
Una leggenda racconta che, durante una lunga siccità, un pastore e la sua figlioletta stavano morendo di sete. Il pastore tanto pregò, che le nuvole si commossero e fecero cadere la pioggia, ma i poverini non avevano un recipiente per raccogliere l’acqua e bere! La piccola genzianella tanto si commosse, che decise di chiudere i suoi petali in quella che ora è la sua forma particolare, premettendo così ai due pastori di usarla come calice per poter finalmente bere.

“Genzianella” è un piccolo poncho lavorato dall’alto verso il basso.
Ha un collo alto ed è decorato da due motivi in pizzo che ricordano la pianta a cui si ispira.
