Genesis is a magnificent, triangular, double-knitted shawl, showcasing many vibrant and exciting techniques. It is knitted top down, starting with a centre-tab beginning (rather like a garter tab, but there’s no garter stitch here), and finished with a Kitchener graft.

The shawl features pictorial patterns, increases, decreases, cables different types of yarnover, texture, bobbles: basically, all the good stuff!

The pattern is written to be a compendium of different double-knitting techniques, and the 43 pages are packed with tutorials, and links to videos. Whether you are a seasoned, experienced double-knitter, or a total novice, absolutely everything you need to know in order to knit Genesis is contained right in the pattern pages, and I’m confident that you will be able to knit it successfully, whatever your skill level.

I knitted mine using a mixture of Wollmeise twin and Wollmeise Pure (150g per skein) and I used three skeins of each colour.

I chose Campari Orange and Die Auster as my colourways, and although I love them, and I love my finished shawl, I very strongly recommend using two solid or semi-solid yarns, rather than anything with too much variegation.

I have sat on this pattern for nearly ten years, partly because I wanted my own Genesis shawl to be unique, and partly because I knew that writing up the pattern would be a big job, but the time has finally come to share it with the world. Not least because SO many people have begged me to release it over the years. So here it is.

Wondering why it is a bit more expensive than many of the shawl patterns on here? I am confident that the Genesis pattern is still incredibly good value for money, because of the sheer amount of information and knowledge contained within it. Many technique books contain less information than this single pattern, and by the time you reach the end of your own Genesis, you really will be able to consider yourself a Double-knitting wizard, with many useful and translatable double-knitting skills under your belt.

Trust me: Genesis is not just a shawl, it’s the dawn of a new way of life in knitting. Be warned… you might never want to knit single-layered fabric ever again!
