Gáttaþefur
Tonight, Gáttaþefur (Door Sniffer), the eleventh of the thirteen Icelandic Yule lads, will come to town! Have you been naughty or nice? Will you get candy or a potato?

Gáttaþefur was from birth blessed with a huge nose, heightened olfactory senses, as well as the ability to never catch a cold. He is, as so many other Icelanders, partial to laufabrauð, and uses his abnormally large nose to sniff out its hiding places.

Gáttaþefur - Icelandic Style Sweater. The sweater is knit bottom-up. Start by knitting the body and both sleeves up to the yoke. The underarm stitches of the body and the sleeves are transferred to pieces of scrap yarn or stitch holders and the remaining stitches of the body and the sleeves are combined on a circular knitting needle to form the yoke which is shaped by simple decreases until the neckline stitches are cast off. The underarm stitches on the body and the sleeves are grafted together by the Kitchener stitch.

Gauge:
18 stitches og 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm using 4½ mm needles.

Gáttaþefur - Islandsk. Genseren strikkes fra bunn til topp. Begynn med å strikke bolen og begge erme opp til bærestykket. Sett underarm-maskene til bolen og ermene på en maskeholder/tråd, og sett de resterende maskene av bolen og ermene sammen på en lang rundpinne. Bærestykket formes med enkle reduksjoner før genseren avsluttes med vrangbord i halsen. Underarmsmaskene maskes sammen med Kitchener masker.

Strikkefasthet: 18 masker og 24 rader = 10 x 10 cm glattstrikk på 4½ mm pinner.
