Garter Stitch Hat
Summary: Form a hat from an easy-to-knit garter stitch rectangle and decorate with a pom-pom
Materials required:
- 190 yds. of worsted weight yarn for hat
- small amount of worsted weight yarn in a contrasting color for pom-pom
- yarn needle
- about 8 T-pins or coil-less safety pins (optional)
- 4 x 2 1/4 inch piece of cardboard or Pom-Pom Maker tool, for making a pom-pom
- Strong scrap yarn (such as a plied wool or cotton yarn) in the same color as the pom-pom
From Knitting for Baby: This hat is made by knitting a rectangle, folding it in half, and sewing the open top and side seam closed. To finish with a hat that is the same size as the one shown in the photo you need to knit it at the gauge listed in the pattern. If you end up with a hat that is a different size, don't worry. It will probably fit the baby at some point; if not, it will surely fit someone else.
