Garter Stitch Bow // Retrillesløjfe
A simple, pretty bow in garter stitch with knit-nerdy details to make the edges nice!
Make it in leftovers, or grab a couple of some mini skeins to create this.
The size can be adjusted by using a lighter or heaver weight yarn (adjusting needle size as well), making it perfect for decoration, a hair accessory, or a brooch – or something else entirely.
The pattern includes a visual step-by-step tutorial for how to fold the bow.
Yarn used: Knitter’s Kitchen Merino/Nylon DK (75% merino, 25% nylon), 225 meters / 240 yards per 100g.
Colorway: “Ruby Mining”.
Approximate meterage/yardage needed:
Bow: 17g / 40 meters / 44 yards
Bow ties (short): 10 g / 23 meters / 25 yards
Bow ties (long): 17g / 40 meters / 44 yards
Any yarn with the same weight and meterage/yardage can be used for a bow in the stated size. Use a lighter or heavier yarn as well if you like (adjust the needle size if necessary) – but note that this will impact the size of the finished bow.
Needles: 2,75 mm / US 2 circulars or double pointed needles, or size needed for gauge (or yarn weight, in case you’re working with a lighter/heavier yarn). The fabric should be worked at a rather tight gauge.
Other: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and sew the bow together.
Optional: A hair tie or a hair clip, if you want to make a hair accessory out of it. Or a safety pin to make a brooch.
Gauge: Not crucial (but gauge might affect required yardage and final size) Sample uses gauge of 26 sts 10 cm / 4 inches in garter stitch, approximately the double in row gauge.
Size: At the stated gauge, the bow measures approximately 13 cm / 5 inches across, width/height approximately 11 cm / 4.5 inches.
Bow ties (short) add 6 cm / 2.25 inches; Bow ties (long) add 14 cm / 5.5 inches.
