The pattern is included in the Jewels 2 eBook, which features five mosaic knit accessory designs. A sixth pattern will be introduced later this year.

The Garnet shawl pattern is inspired by a gemstone, like many of my shawl patterns. The name comes from “pomegranate” due to its resemblance to the seeds. It symbolises protection, love, positive energy and success, warding off negativity. Serving as January’s birthstone, it’s associated with good health, wealth, and happiness.

The shawl is worked from the top down as two side-by-side right-angled triangles, beginning with a garter tab cast on. The body of the shawl is worked in one colour using various slip-stitch patterns. A striking border is worked in two contrasting colours, in mosaic knitting.
Mosaic knitting is one of the easiest colourwork techniques, with just one colour per row. The mosaic pattern can be worked in stocking stitch (as the sample), in garter stitch, or in a combination of stocking (background) and garter stitch (pattern), as you prefer.

The mosaic chart is also provided in reverse colours for ease of use if you decide to swap the light and dark colours in your shawl.
