Sometimes looking at a yarn will make a design pop almost fully formed into your mind.

In this case the feel of 50% Merino 50% silk yarn called out to be draped over shoulders and the colourway reminded me of the leaves in a patch of woodland near home which in turn brought to mind a lace pattern from the Knitting and Crochet Guild archive.

The result is a simple crescent shawlette using a single skein of 4ply, garlanded with a band of leaves inspired by Victorian knitting patterns.

The lace section in knitted as a strip before the body stitches are picked up and the shawlette shaped using short rows.
