Galanthus fingerless mittens
These fingerless mittens are knitted in stranded colourwork from the cuff upward. The pattern does not offer very extensive instructions, but these should be fairly easy for any knitter who is somewhat familiar with stranded knitting and following a chart. The cuff incorporates a little bit of lace, but it’s a very simple two-row lace pattern which would be a perfect first lace endeavor for the beginner. They also feature a thumb gusset to fit your hand like - well, not quite a glove, but a nice mitten. :-)
The pattern includes charts and written instructions for women’s medium sized mittens, but the size can be easily adjusted by going up or down a needle size.
The name comes from snowdrop flowers, which are usually the first flowers to pop out of the ground after winter here in Sweden. As the weather slowly becomes warmer, a pair of fingerless mittens are perfect for that transition period which is neither winter nor spring.
