In the Summer 2024 issue of Cast On, Sharon Levering wrote an article on Fleegle heels, and I knew I had to try this technique. I make a pair of birthday socks every year for a friend with a higher instep and sometimes she struggles to get them on if the stitch pattern doesn’t stretch much. I used Sharon’s pattern and the result was a pair of socks that fit my friend perfectly.

I had not planned on designing a pattern for socks for this issue, but when a designer had to pull her design after the yarn company had sent the yarn, I saw this as an opportunity to get a head start on next year’s present.

Sharon is our tech editor, and she is the teacher for our certification program on the subject, so it goes without saying that her pattern is perfect. I asked her if I could use her pattern as a template for this sock, and she agreed, so if it looks familiar to you, it should, especially the instructions for the heel.
