One recent winter, my part of the world was rapidly fluctuating between cold and snow, and unseasonable warmth. On a trip up to the mountains I passed many lakes, all with the same bizarre appearance: lattice-like sheets of ice, intersected by rolling “waves” of ice where the water had lapped up during a warm spell and then refrozen. I immediately thought of those lakes when I put this cowl on – and then I thought of how nice this cowl would be on a ski trip! Warm, squishy, and generously sized, this cowl is perfect for keeping you warm wherever your winter adventures take you. This cowl is available in 5 sizes: all sizes are 6.5 in (16.5 cm) wide; the diameter for each size at the longest point is:
XS (21 in/53 cm) S (32 in/81 cm); M (43 in/109 cm); L (53 in/135 cm); XL (64 in/163 cm).

Needles
US # 9 (5.5 mm) circular: 20 in (29 in; 32 in; 40 in; 50 in), or size to obtain gauge
US # 8 (5 mm) circular: 16 in (24 in; 29 in; 32 in; 40 in)
These are the longest needles which should be used – somewhat shorter needles may be substituted. If substituting needles of another size for the US # 9 (5.5 mm) needles also substitute needles of the next-smallest size for the US # 8 (5 mm) needles.

Gauge
13 stitches by 16 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, using larger needles
