Frosted Leaves Socks
Welcome to the Sock Knitters Anonymous November 2022 Mystery Sock KnitAlong! I am so excited to be here with you, and really hope you decide to join me. These socks will be knit top-down with a heel flap & short-row heel and use charts to guide you in the knitting of this design. I will be releasing a total of FOUR (4) clues through the month of November 2022; the release plan is as follows:
Clue 1 – Tuesday November 1st
Clue 2 – Tuesday November 8th
Clue 3 – Tuesday November 15th
Clue 4 – Tuesday November 22nd
Charts and a description of the required stitches for each clue will be included as the clues are released – this is a mystery KAL after all! Each Clue will be released as an updated version of the Pattern so that all Clues issued up to that point are included in a single document. In doing it this way, I only include the stitch descriptions once in the document; please keep this in mind if you’re printing your pattern with each Clue release and only print the pages corresponding to the newest Clues.
Size Small (Medium, Large) corresponds to a leg circumference of approximately 15.75cm (17cm, 20cm)/ 6.25” (6.75”, 7.5”) unstretched and a foot circumference of approximately 18.5cm (19.5cm, 22cm)/7.25” (7.75”,8.5”) unstretched.
The fabric of this sock is about as elastic as a plain vanilla sock, if this helps with your choice of sizes.
MATERIALS
• 350 – 400m (400-440 yds) fingering weight/sock yarn. Solid and subtle tonal yarns work best with this pattern; “busier” yarns tend to overshadow the beads.
• 250 good quality seed beads in a colour that will work well with the yarn (some people like their beads to contrast, others prefer more subtle colours). I recommend size 8 Toho beads; size 6 beads will work too, but they will produce a “chunkier” look to the beaded sections. By “good quality” I mean the size of the opening of each bead is consistent, allowing for easy mounting onto the stitches.
• Small crochet hook for mounting beads (description of the technique will be included in the pattern) – I use a No. 14/0.8mm hook. Other methods for mounting the bead onto a stitch can be used (eg. dental floss), but pre-stringing the beads will not work.
• Tapestry needle for grafting toe & weaving the ends
• Cable needle (optional – if you are adept at cabling without one, you should be fine).
• Stitch marker (optional)
