Frog Princess
Introductory offer: On the first weekend of publishing (11th/12th of March 2023) you can purchase Frog Princess at a discount of 20% - no coupon code required.
Frog Princess is an intricate looking yet relatively easy to knit shawl made with two yarns. It is fully reversible. You need two contrasting yarns: two solids, one solid or semi solid combined with a color gradient, or two color gradients that go well together as a pair but that are distinctive enough to make out the individual modules – all these ensembles will do.
The size will depend on the amount of modules you want to knit. Frog Princess comes in two different sizes. Large and Small. The aspect ratio of the large version will give you more depth to the shawl than the small version. The small version was created as a two skein wonder for fingering yarn. Of course, you can use more yarn and still knit the small version, if you fancy shawls with more length. If you prefer a shawl that has a lot of depth I recommend the large version.
Frog Princess is a modular knit but there is no seaming involved as you will attach the second half to the first as you go.
You can use different yarn weights provided they behave the same way when you make a swatch. For instance I have paired Dibadu Twisted Fifties with Dibadu Dolci. Dolci is much lighter than Twisted Fifties, but is fluffier as well and knitting a swatch showed that I would get the same stitch count with either yarn. You will have to weigh your yarns individually to make sure you have enough yarn left for the 2nd half.
I knitted one large version with Dibadu Twisted Fifties Kapriole as Yarn A (765y/700m) and Dibadu Dolci “Jeans Bianco” (660y/605m) as Yarn B - length: 58“/147cm – depth: 25“/64cm.
I knitted another large version with Cotton Kings Sultan #46 as Yarn A and #41 as Yarn B (875y/800m each) – length: 71“/180cm - depth: 28,5”/72cm.
I knitted a small version with Schoppel Zauberball Sphinx as Yarn A and Überdosis as Yarn B (aproximately 440y/400m each) – length: 49,5“/126cm – depth: 18“/46cm.
All instructions are given in written and charted form. You will find photo tutorials on all the necessary techniques.
The general principle of Frog Princess is fairly easy and you won’t have to look at the instructions once you have knitted the first few modules. This makes Frog Princess perfect for travelling or knitting in front of the tv.
Happy Knitting
