Pattern has been fully tested

It seems a little peculiar to have written a freeform pattern. After all, the whole basis of freeform is that you are not following a pattern or trying to reproduce the work of anyone else – but are creating your own unique piece.

So what I’ve done here is to encourage you to experiment. I’ve shared the instructions for making a hat like my sample one, but I’ve also include two pages of suggestions for other things you can try out to make your hat different.

I honestly hope you will only follow my pattern to make one of these hats. After that you will be geared with the tools for making your own freeform hat. Have the confidence to experiment!

This pattern uses 7 different yarns, ranging from 8 ply - 10 ply (DK - worsted).

The sample hat is a Medium Adult, which used a total of 100 g of yarn.

Choose the yarn for the hat band carefully. This section of the hat sits snugly around the head, so a smooth comfortable yarn should be chosen. This is the yarn to use when you are checking gauge for this project.

Consider combining an assortment of different fibre types to create a truly eclectic hat.
