Four Seasons Hangings - Bluebell
These wall hangings are created using Tapestry Crochet for the background. Tapestry Crochet is similar to regular crochet, except that two or more strands are worked at the same time to create a colourful fabric. The colours not being used are carried along the top of the previous row. Double crochet (US-single crochet) stitches are worked as you would normally, through both loops of the previous row and over the top of the carried colours.
The flowers use florists wire and wadding to create a 3-D effect and are appliquéd to the background. Nearly all of the flower parts are worked in dc (US-sc) and, provided you take the instructions step by step, are not complicated.
Materials: DMC Natura Just Cotton, Florists wire. The florists wire I use is 30cm (12inch) lengths of gauge 28. It is available from most florists or on eBay.
Equipment: 2.5mm hook, tapestry needle, two hanging rods.
Tension: 13 dc x 15 rows to 5 cm square.
Finished Size: The back panel measures about 23 x 61 cm (9 x 24 in).
