CONSTRUCTION
This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up. It starts with a ribbing section. The pattern is then worked from the chart or written instructions. There are two versions for the decreases, one a more fitted hat and one that’s a bit slouchier. Front cover picture shows fitted hat, picture on page 4 shows slouchier hat.
SIZE
Circumference:
Small: 17 inches / 42.5 cm, fits head 19 - 21 inches / 47.5 - 52.5 cm.
Large: 20 inches / 50 cm, fits head 22 - 24 inches / 55 - 60 cm
Height: 8¼- 9 inches / 20.5 -22.5 cm or depending on how slouchy you like it.
The hat has plenty of stretch, choose a size 2 - 3 inches / 5 – 7.5 cm smaller than your head.
MATERIALS
Recommended Yarn:
Miss Babs Killington 85% Polwarth Wool, 15% Tussah Silk, 350 yd / 4.2 oz (320 m/ 120g) skeins. Shown in Patina.
Best suited to a solid-coloured yarn.
Small: 135 - 150 m / 148 - 164 yds DK weight yarn.
Large: 160 - 180 m / 175 - 197 yds DK weight yarn.
Needles and Notions
3.00 mm (US 2½) for ribbing or 0.5 mm smaller than your main needles.
3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles 16 - 20 inches / 40 – 50 cm long or size required to obtain gauge. A longer needle or DPNs for the decreases at the crown.
BOR marker and 5 additional slipping markers.
Tapestry needle to sew in ends.
Optional pompom.
GAUGE
26 sts and 36 rounds to 4 inches / 10 cm in pattern, after washing and drying flat.
