Forest Grove
December Holiday Sale! All patterns are 50% off in the month of December using the code HOLIDAY23 (sale runs 12/1-12/31).
Forest Grove is an elongated oval shaped wrap, knit from the center out. This shawl plays with unique shaping, utilizing a marled technique for color blending, and striping by alternating levels of opacity.
This wrap is shaped with yarn over increases and knit/purl decreases only. There are no short rows or advanced techniques, making this a fantastic and interesting knit for a beginner.
Finished Measurements: approximately 23.5” (60 cm) depth at center point and 79” (200 cm) wingspan, depending on gauge and blocking.
Materials:
4 skeins, in 4 different colors, of Barnyard Knits Fingering (75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon, 463 Yards/100 Grams). Sample shown in:
Color A: Tourmaline
Color B: Old Tin Roof
Color C: Faded Farmhouse
Color D: Rosebud
To make the marled technique easier, each color should be split into two equal size cakes.
Needles and notions:
• US size 7 (4.5 mm) (or size needed to obtain gauge) circular needle, plus a set of DPNs in the same size if desired for the center section of the wrap.
• Crochet hook (optional, for cast on)
• Stitch holder/waste yarn
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle
• Tape measure
• Blocking mats/wires/pins
Gauge: Accurate gauge is not crucial for the fit of this design, but if your gauge is significantly different it may affect the amount of yarn needed (if you don’t enjoy a good game of yarn chicken, I would recommend swatching). The sample gauge was approximately 19 stitches and 28 rows over 4”, in stockinette stitch, after blocking.
