This warm, cozy cowl is based on my Forest Canopy Shoulder Shawl. The stitch pattern is presented in both chart and written form. It is easy to memorize and fun to execute. The slightly flared and scalloped edge flows from the leaf lace pattern. The cowl sits on the shoulders to block out the cold wind. The project works up quickly from just one skein of Malabrigo Silky Merino or Manos Silk Blend, making this the perfect last-minute gift.

Gauge is expressed in stockinette stitch only to facilitate yarn substitution. The cowl is not worked in stockinette stitch. If your gauge differs even slightly from the suggested gauge, you will most likely need to purchase a second skein of yarn.

Worked at the suggested gauge and after a very light blocking, the finished cowl is 10 inches long and measures approx. 18 inches in circumference (it stretches to fit over your head). I do not recommend blocking the finished cowl too severely since that will cause it to lose its elasticity, decreasing its effectiveness at keeping your neck warm. Plus, it has a much more interesting texture if blocked only lightly.
