For Mary Cherrey
In the last issue, I wrote a Fashion Framework article about skirts, and I mentioned that I planned to redesign a skirt (Shrinking Cables and no, it isn’t on the website) that I originally designed almost 20 years ago to correct a major flaw. Well, this is the redesign. The original was worked using an Aran weight tweed yarn, and the combination of the yarn weight, the dense cable stitch pattern, and the lack of a real waistband would cause the skirt to slip over those of us with narrow hips. I am dedicating this redesign to Mary Cherrey who fell prey to this flaw.
I wanted a lighter weight yarn, and Purl Soho Spindle, a super fine tweed yarn, was perfect for what I had in mind. Rather than duplicate the cable pattern from the original, I used less bulky cables. But most important of all, I included a waistband casing for elastic.
The waistband is very narrow as I want the wearer to have the option of wearing it lower on the hips if desired. The skirt is very wide at the hips, so I suggest selecting a size based on the waistband measurement.
