There’s a beautiful and fleeting little season of the year where I live that we affectionately call “fool’s spring”. It’s the time of the year where the sun starts to return and the daffodils may even begin to sprout, but the mornings and many days the wind is still so, so cold. Walks in the woods still require wool to stay warm even as the sun shines. These mittens are inspired by the shifting seasons, where winter meets spring.

Materials

Approximately 100g (230 yards) of DK weight yarn

Sample is shown in Wing and a Prayer Farm Thelma & Louise (a blend of Cotswold, Mohair, and Merino) in “Golden”, a lovely farm yarn with a slight heathered quality.

Note: 1 skein should be sufficient to knit a gauge swatch along with a complete pair of mittens.

US 5 (3.75 mm) 40” knitting needle for magic loop, or 5 US 5 (3.75 mm) double-pointed needles, or needle size needed to achieve gauge
2 stitch markers
Darning needle, blocking pins and boards, and wool wash, for finishing

Gauge

22 stitches x 32 rows over 4 in. (10 cm) after blocking in stockinette stitch
