The Flower Pop Hat is a stranded colorwork hat inspired by the work of Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Creating his own movement called “superflat,” he is known for blurring the lines between high and low arts, his use of color, and incorporating motifs from pop culture. Drawing inspiration from a show of his work I saw with my mom in 2006 in Boston at the MFA, his smiling daisies are iconic. It remains one of my favorite exhibitions of all time. Using 1 hank of each color in Blue Sky Fibers’ Woolstok North, stranded colorwork daisies encircle the hat, while chunky Latvian braids create an interesting texture element running perpendicular to the ribbed brim. A classic spiral decrease is topped with a pom pom.

95 yds/87 m is needed for MC, and 50 yds/46 m is needed for the CC.
