Flower Buds Sweater DK

“Flower Buds” - slightly long sweater with a straight silhouette or waist shaping silhouette with ~2-5cm/1-2” of positive ease with short or long sleeve.
You start with the circular yoke knit flat sideways in Garter stitch (using short-rows and 2 colors).Then it’s sewn together and worked in the round (children sizes from 1 yr to 6-7 yrs includes button at back), then all edges finished with 3-stitch I-cord.
• Children sizes: straight silhouette
• Adult sizes: straight silhouette or silhouette with waist shaping and horizontal darts (optional for adult sizes starting from size 3 and up, but highly recommended).
Sleeves are worked top down.
Pattern includes instructions for two color combo:
• Yoke background and body- MC, Flower Buds -CC
• Flower Buds and body MC, yoke background – CC
Also, you can choose the desired option of the pattern.
YARN: DK yarn in two contrasting colors. Yardage for your size and color option is provided below:
• Summer content (linen, cotton, silk) ~200-230m/218-252 yds per 100g/3.5oz;
• Winter content (merino wool)~200-220m/218-241yds per 100g/3.5oz.
The sample was knit in Madelinetosh Merino DK, colorways Firewood & Citrus.
NEEDLES:
• Main (for the body&sleeves): 3.75 mm/US 5(or size to get gauge in Stockinette) circulars on a 60 cm/24” cable;
• Edging(hem, cuffs, applied I-cord):3.5mm/US 4 (or size to get gauge in Garter) circulars on a 60 cm/24”cable + DPN’s;
NOTIONS: 1 button (for children sizes from 1yr to 6-7 yrs), crochet hook, stitch markers, row counter, tapestry needle, scissors, waste yarn/ stitch holder/extra cable.
Gauge(on main needles measured per 10x10 cm/4x4” square after wet blocking)
• In Garter Stitch - 21stitches by 21 garter ridges (42 rows)
• In Stockinette – 21 stitches by 28 rows
Sizing and yardage
8 children sizes: 1 (2, 3-4, 5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-12, 13-16) years for height 86-90 (92-96, 98-104,110-116, 122-128, 134-140, 146-152, 158-164)cm/2.8-2.95 (3-3.15, 3.2-3.4, 3.6-3.8, 4-4.2, 4.4-4.6, 4.8-5, 5.2-5.4)” or bust 50 (52, 54,56, 60, 64, 71, 78)cm/20 (20.5, 21.25, 22, 23.75, 25.25, 28, 31)”.
14 adult sizes: 1, 2,3, 4, 5, 6, 7 {8, 9,10, 11, 12, 13, 14}, or bust 82, 86,92, 96, 102, 106, 112 {117, 123 ,128, 133, 139, 146, 153}cm/32.25, 34, 36.25, 38, 40.25, 41.75, 44 {46, 48.5, 50.5, 52.5, 54.75, 57.5, 60.25}”; for an average height of ~166-170cm/5.4-5.6ft.
Techniques (all video link not affiliated)
• Cast-on’s:
o Classic long-tail
o Provisional (using crochet hook & scrap yarn)
o Backwards loop
• Working in garter, stockinette
• I-cord bind-off and applied I-cord (over 3 sts)
• Grafting Garter stitch
• Reading charted instructions (optional)
• Decreases: k2tog, ssk
• Increases:
o right-(M1R) and left-leaning (M1L)
• German short-rows
The print was partially inspired by lovely hats from Woollywormhead. If you would like to use up the scraps and make a matching hat - I highly recommend her Toph pattern & the whole Elementals hat collection.
