For this pattern, I wanted to try to capture a little of the magic of Spring. That moment when the buds suddenly appear on the trees, and every day you see them slowly opening up and their delicate shape emerges. That’s how I wanted knitters to feel, not only wearing this beret but when they knit it too.

Knit top down, you begin with only 3 stitches and work a few rows of i-cord for the centre of the crown. From there, stitches are increased and you begin working in the round using the chart or the written instructions to create the crown of twisted and slipped stitches.
Just like the buds on the trees, the pattern blooms with every round, and before you know it, a delicate flower has opened up, framed with tiny bobbles like gentle drops of morning dew (and because if you know me at all, I can’t resist a bobble!).

The pattern continues with stockinette stitch worked to the correct length, and then a section of decreasing to complete the beret shape. It is then finished with a simple i-cord brim to give a secure fit, though a few rounds of twisted rib can be used here instead if you prefer.
