A Quick, Feminine Scarf with Intricate Details and Easy Wearability
This pattern is designed as a simple yet elegant scarf that’s both practical and compact, perfect for slipping into your bag without taking up much space. Though small in size, it functions fully as a warm, protective scarf, without the excess length of traditional styles. Its flatter neck section ensures added comfort, while the twisted ribbing and crossed stitches bring both texture and visual appeal.
The highlight of this design is the interconnected cabled stitches, featuring a central bobble that evokes the look of a stylised flower or leaf. This feminine motif extends to the pointed edges on both sides, making the scarf a delicate yet functional accessory, ideal for gift knitting or personal wear.
The scarf is constructed in two mirrored halves, beginning with a provisional cast-on at the center. First, one side is worked to a point, and then the second is knit in the opposite direction from the center out. The pattern ensures a balanced and symmetrical shape with decreases forming the tapered ends. Included are both written instructions and charts as also an exclusive video tutorial.
Yarn Substitution & Length Modification:
The sample shown is knit in DK weight superwash merino, chosen for its elasticity and stitch definition, which beautifully showcases the pattern’s texture. However, yarn substitution is flexible, since the gauge is less critical for a scarf than for a garment. Thicker yarns will yield a larger, heavier scarf, while thinner yarns will result in a smaller, lighter version. For alternative textures, fuzzy or less elastic yarns such as mohair blends will give a softer look but with less stitch definition. These changes will affect the appearance but not the overall dimensions of the finished piece.
For length modifications, you can extend the scarf by repeating the twisted ribbing and crossed stitch sections before the main pattern (Sets 1 + 2). Each repeat adds about 12 cm (4¾“) to each side, allowing you to customise the length as desired, regardless of yarn choice.
Remember, additional yarn will be needed for a longer scarf!

★ FINAL DIMENSIONS:
Width at centre: 12cm / 4¾ inches
Total length: 126cm / 49½ inches.
Note that the scarf’s length can be adjusted as described in the pattern.
★ YARN
DRACO by das Mondschaf
(100% Merino Wool at 230 m or 252 yards / 115 gr):
110 gr / 1 skein (colourway: Fuchur)
The needed amount is an estimate: Be aware that you might need more yarn than indicated.
★ NEEDLES
TWO 4,5mm / US 7 needles.
This project is worked flat in rows of around 15 cm. You can choose circular needles or straight ones, according to your preference, but you will need at least a spare cable for the provisional CO.
★ OTHER
Crochet hook: Same size as knitting needle or slightly smaller.
Tapestry needle.
Cable needle.
★ GAUGE
32 sts and 29 rows in 10 cm/4” in Twisted Ribbing on 4,5mm / US 7 needles. (Measured after light blocking.)
Note that since this is an accessory, gauge is not really crucial but will affect the final dimensions of the project and the amount of yarn used.
