This two colour brioche hat is decorated with a flower motif and is named after the Floriade flower festivals that are held in both Canberra, Australia (where I live) and the Netherlands (where I lived).

Materials:
• DK weight yarn (200m/100g) in two colours, Main Colour (MC) and Contrast Colour (CC), approx 55 (77, 110) yds of each, depending on size.
• 4mm/US 6 needles, either circular or dpns, for working in the round.
• Stitch marker.
• Needle to weave in ends.

Gauge:
Sample hat had 26 Rounds and 17 stitches in brioche rib in a 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”) square.

Size of finished hat:
Brioche fabric is quite elastic. Measurements of the finished hats are listed (while unworn and therefore unstretched) measured around the brim of the hat (circumference) and from the crown to the brim (length). The ‘to fit’ measurements listed below are suggested head measurements for each size.

SMALL
Circumference: 38cm (15”)
Length: 15cm (6”)
To fit head circumference: infant 46cm (18”)

MEDIUM
Circumference: 45cm (17.75”)
Length: 18cm (7“)
To fit head circumference: child/teen 54cm (21.25”)

LARGE
Circumference: 52cm (20.5”)
Length: 25cm (9.75“)
To fit head circumference: large adult 62cm (24.5”)

Sizes may be combined by casting on the number of stitches for one size and working the length for another size (for example, if the hat needs to be wider but not longer).

The pattern includes both written instructions and charts.

Stitch abbreviations and chart symbols are based on those developed by Nancy Marchant.
