Floral Arrangement Cowl
I wanted to design a pretty all-over pattern to put on a hat, cowl, mittens and maybe a pillow too! Here it is and the prototype was such a favorite in my most recent knit design class, I decided to publish the cowl first. The design needed to be simple, easy to knit, but striking. This simple, geometric floral arrangement works nicely. A tonal or space-dyed yarn in pinks creates the subtle color changes and achieves the desired result BUT if stash-busting is on your mind, alternate 2 different shades of pink (or color of knitter’s choice) every other round, and a tonal effect is achieved without tonal yarn!
Directions for 5 lengths are included, size 2 is shown in photos. Size 1 is recommended for most children to keep the neck warm while keeping the cowl short enough to avoid being caught on playground equipment.
Gauge: 21 sts x 24 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in stranded st stitch, blocked on larger needles
Finished Height: (cast-on to bind-off) approx 10 in / 25.5 cm
Finished Circumference: approx (21, 25, 29, 33, 37) in
(53.5, 63.5, 73.5, 84, 94) cm
Sizes: (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) Size 2 shown in photos.
Materials:
The following worsted yarns used in the photos: Ella Rae Any worsted weight yarn can be used and though exact gauge is less important in a cowl or scarf, swatching will be a help in choosing the cast-on number closest to the number of inches / cm circumference desired in final piece.
Colors reflect the colors in photos.
