Flight of the Owl
She takes to the night sky to hunt her prey, protect her children, and glide between the worlds. The soft feathers of her body expand outward as the firm, strong feathers of her wings enable her to take flight. Knit from the top center out, this shawl incorporates two different stitch patterns, mimicking the feathers and wings of an owl in flight.
Small: approximately 70” wide x 26” deep (178 x 65 cm)
Large: approximately 90” wide x 28” deep (228 x 71 cm)The body uses approximately 60% of the yarn, while the edging uses approximately 40%.
Materials:
• Light fingering weight yarn, such as Malabrigo Sock, approximately 650 (880) yds, 595 (805) m (yardage: body approx. 60%, edging approx. 40%)
• US Size 6 (4.0 mm) 32” (81 cm) or longer circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle
Gauge: 25 stitches = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette before blocking, 21 sts= 4” (10 cm) after blocking
Note: This shawl may be worked with lighter or heavier weight yarns. If you change the yarn weight, make sure that you choose a needle size that gives you the drape you desire in the fabric. Yardage requirements will change based on yarn weight and gauge.
There are 2 documents available upon purchase. The second document places the charts and written directions on separate pages and side by side.
