Flight Formation ... a shawl
A KAL is starting on this one June 2013 thru my LYS, Dog House Yarns. Come check out the fun we’re having creating this shawl …
With an easy to memorize lace pattern (repeat of 8sts x 8rows), this shawl is a great first knitted-lace project. Worked top down, the “birds” increase as the shawl grows, ending with a garter-stitch band.
This one can be worn multiple ways – all flattering! Using approx 380 yards of fingering weight wool (sample used Poems Sock in “Cruise”), this shawl is a fun knit … and done in sock yarn to take full-advantage of the self-striping yarns on the market.
Directions are charted and written out.
Other notes:
• this shawl starts with a “garter tab” than blooms into three stitch panels with 2SS between increase points
• increases for the shawl are YO’s
• every 8 rows you will start a new set of “birds” – 2 sts from the marker you’ve placed; each tier will have an extra “bird”; you will continue as est until you have 9 birds betweeneach set of inc
• the shawl finishes with garter rows – to keep the shawl edge flat and to complement the garter edges
• slip the first st of every row to crate a clean, chain edge; slip as if to purl
