First Day of Spring Scarf
The vernal equinox, or first day of spring in March, always seems like a tease for us in the northern part of the United States. Past March temperatures have ranged from below 0 °F (-18 °C) to over 60 °F (15.5 ° C)--that’s a heat wave! This knit scarf is made with worsted or bulky yarn, which provides warmth for those chilly “spring” days, yet the reversible, open lace design is perfect for those unexpected heat waves.

The pattern only has one row to memorize and doesn’t include any purl stitches or abbreviations. Knitters must only know how to cast on, knit, knit two stitches together through the front loops and through the back loops, and increase with a yarn over. The scarf is knit on straight needles, and includes modifications for matching scarf ends and a cowl.

Yarn Suggestions
Single ply yarn with slow color transitions is recommended to best show off the stitch pattern.

Worsted: Knit Picks Chroma Worsted, 198yd / 3.5oz (181m / 100g), 1 skein for scarf
Note: Pattern states the Chroma colorway, Mesa, is discontinued - this is false! It is still available.

Aran: di.Vé Teseo, 98 yd / 1.75 oz (90 m / 50 g), 1 skein for cowl

Bulky: 1.75 oz - 7 oz (100 g - 200 g)

Gauge is not necessary - aim for a loose, relaxed scarf - or start your scarf and compare its size to the finished measurements.
