First Day of School
Pattern description
Sara’s son, Sam, was very nervous about starting first grade. Every time he thought about it he cried, and Sara felt awful for him. So Sara came up with a plan: She wasn’t sure it was going to work, but she hoped it would at least make Sam feel a little better. She told him she was going to knit him a “first day of school sweater” and he could pick whatever colors and style he wanted. She told him that when he wore it on the first day of school it would remind him that she was thinking of him all day long. Both Sam and Sara cried a bit when Sara left on that first day, but when school let out, Sam ran toward Sara, hugged her, and said, “Mom, I liked school. I won’t cry tomorrow.”
