“Firn” is part of the collection of patterns inspired by the “Monti Pallidi” (Pale Mountains), a chain of mountains in the Italian Dolomites.
Firn is the name given to a certain type of snow.
Snow that is partially compacted, left from past Seasons and crystallized into a more dense structure. It looks like wet sugar, but in reality it is very resistant.

“Firn” is a cowl with an unusual shape; it almost seems like a bandana because of the triangle that softly drapes across the chest.
It is knit starting from the bottom point, as it grows the lace pattern fans out over a garter stitch background.
At the top the cowl is joined in the round and height is added. The elastic top border makes it comfortable to wear.

Finished measurements:
Circumference: 70 cm – 27 ½”.
Length (measured at the longest point): 53 cm – 20 ¾”.
Length (measured at the shortest point): 18 cm – 20 ¾”.

Yarn and needles:
Lanecardate Handknitting KLIMT (66% Superfine Wool, 22% Angora, 12% Lamè; 160 m - 175 yd for 25 g/0.88 oz. skein): 3 skeins (400 m – 437.5 yd).
Circular needle size 3 mm – US 2 ½ with wire 60 cm – 24” long.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Other:
Tapestry needle.
2 stitch markers.

Gauge:
19 sts and 40 rows = 10 cm – 4” in garter stitch (worked in the round and after blocking).

“Firn” fa parte della collezione ispirata ai “Monti Pallidi”, la catena montuosa delle Dolomiti italiane.
Firn è il nome che viene dato a un particolare tipo di neve.
Si tratta di neve parzialmente compattata, un tipo di neve che è stata lasciata dalle passate stagioni e si è cristallizzata in una struttura più densa. Ha l’aspetto di zucchero bagnato, ma in realtà è molto resistente.

Il collo “Firn” ha una forma particolare; sembra quasi un fazzoletto visto il triangolo che ricade sul petto.
Si incomincia a lavorare proprio dalla punta e il motivo traforato si apre progressivamente su uno sfondo lavorato a maglia legaccio. Alla fine il lavoro è unito in tondo e si sviluppa in altezza. La chiusura elastica lo rende confortevole.

Circonferenza: 70 cm.
Lunghezza (presa in corrispondenza della parte più lunga): 53 cm.
Lunghezza (presa in corrispondenza della parte più corta): 18 cm.

Filato e aghi:
Lanecardate Handknitting KLIMT (66% lana superfine, 22% angora, 12% lamè; 160 m per gomitolo da 25 g): 3 gomitoli (400 m).
Aghi circolari numero 3 mm con cavo lungo 60 cm.
Se necessario modificare il numero degli aghi per ottenere il campione corretto.
