Slipped cable stitches create raised diagonal lines, establishing an illusion of woven latticework in the fabric. Two sizes are included with this pattern, giving knitters the option of making a baby blanket or a throw that will complement any style of decor.

Forest Park is one of the premier outdoor destinations in Portland, Oregon, with miles and miles of trails to explore amid the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. At the intersection where Wildwood Trail meets Firelane 1, there’s a little clearing with a couple of old picnic tables right in the middle of the woods that’s a great spot for a rest. You might need to take a break there, actually, because depending on which direction you come from, you will probably walk uphill for quite a ways to get to that spot.

This blanket has a woven motif that is inspired by the picnic basket that you might take with you to the intersection of Firelane 1 and Wildwood Trail.

Please note that this pattern requires the ability to read a chart, as the main motif is charted only.

Sizes:
Baby Blanket (Throw)

Measurements:
Approx. 28” x 35” (40” x 61”) after blocking

Yarn:

  • Approx. 815 yards/5 skeins (1775 yards/11 skeins) of Woolfolk Tov, aran weight, 100% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino, 173 yards/100g per skein
  • Alternative #1: approx. 790 yards/5 skeins (1650 yards/9 skeins) of Plymouth Homestead, aran weight, 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 191 yards/100g per skein
  • Alternative #2: approx. 800 yards/6 skeins (1700 yards/12 skeins) of Cascade 220 Superwash Aran, aran weight, 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 150 yards/100g per skein

A note on the yarn: this pattern was written using Woolfolk Tov, an S on S plied aran weight yarn (shown here as the throw in the T02 colorway). If you are substituting with a different yarn, an exact match may be tricky to find. The alternate suggestions listed above are spun with a different kind of wool and have a different ply structure, so they will result in a slightly different look and feel but will still give you a lovely blanket using the gauge stated in this pattern. A heavy worsted weight yarn or even something on the bulky side may work well, but please note that whatever alternate yarn you choose, your final measurements may differ slightly. Be sure to swatch first.

Needles:
US 9 (5.5mm) 40” circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. The cord length may differ as long as all stitches can fit comfortably. A 32” circular needle will work for the baby blanket size.
Optional: a spare needle one size larger than the main needle to use for the bind off row.

Gauge:
18 stitches and 27 rows = 4”/10cm in pattern from Chart B, after blocking

Cable needle, stitch markers (2), tapestry needle, pins and blocking boards for wet blocking
