Fika Vest
This vest has less structure than a traditional sweater, but definitely more than any scarf or wrap ever had. It hangs on the body more securely than a scarf or wrap does, but retains some of the looseness and flow.
It is worked bottom up in one piece. The shoulder seams and the back of the neck seam are finished off with 3 needle bind off from the inside. The front “scarf” is a wide placket of 3x3 rib, as is the top yoke of the sweater.
Sizing of this is a bit flexible, as there is so much ribbing, but still, I have sized for S (small) M (medium) and L (large). I am following The Craft Yarn Council’s standards which says a small woman has an actual bust measurement of 32-34”, a medium 36-38”, and large 40-42”.
To knit this sweater, you need to know how to maintain a 3x3 rib, that is, recognizing the knit and purl stitches, and so knitting the knits, and purling the purls. You will need to do some “wrap and turns”, a short row technique used to shape the shoulders. I use waste yarn holders for holding stitches in this pattern, but you can use any holders you wish. You also will need to know how to finish off with three needle bind off (or to be willing to look it up and figure it out.). I recommend using a size 8 (or size to meet gauge which is 4 sts = 1” in stockinette) circular needle 32” or 40” long, as well as a dpn to work the bind off.
The sample uses Willow Wash in Vineyard.
