Field Study
Field Study is one of 16 glorious designs in Stranded Knits, a superb technique manual and pattern collection that Ann created for Rowan Yarns. The book is available from Rowan stockists.
The sweater is knitted from the bottom up in rounds, with a steek for the front neck opening. Though the stranded patttern for the sleevecaps is different to that in the body, they are worked at the same time as the body using Barbara Walker’s ‘simultaneous set-in sleeve’ method. The saddle shoulders are also integral, using a short row method I devised to create a gentle shoulder slope whilst continuing in the round.
The PDF pattern includes clearly illustrated tutorials for crochet provisional cast-on, lifted increases, slip-stitch steek reinforcement, and kitchener stitch.
The sizing given above is for the wearer’s actual full bust measurement. The finished sweater includes 4 to 8.5cm/1.5 to 3.25 inches of positive ease.
The given tension/gauge is after blocking. Please note that Felted Tweed is akin to a US sportweight/heavy fingering.
Errata:
The ‘sk2tog’ instruction in the Decrease Round on page 80 should instead be ‘k2tog’.
