Fiddly Bits
If you’re like me and save even the smallest “fiddly bits” of sock/fingering yarn for future use, then you’ll like this project. You create your own ball of yarn by knotting those bits together - nothing like being thrifty and artistic. Check out Hipknitizer’s Yarn Nuggets on Etsy if you want to pump up your scrap stash.
This tubular infinity cowl starts with a provisional cast on. You simply knit until you’re done. All the knots and stray ends are hidden in the tube’s interior as work progresses. At the end, you graft the ends together with the Kitchener Stitch, creating a truly seamless tube. If you want to finish with a Three Needle Bind Off, that’s okay, too. All the knots and stray ends are pulled to the tube interior as the work progresses.
WARNING: It is addictive to make your yarn and then watch how the color stripes knit up. I kept obsessively knitting the model until it was 100” long (and 8” wide) before attaching the ends, because it was just too much fun!
