he Fern Cardigan is an adaptation of a design by our wonderful friend, the late Fran Morgan. To make this version, we held a strand of Scheepjes Scrumptious together with a strand of Trailway, our lace weight companion yarn designed to add texture and subtle colour variation to other yarns. Its colourful neps give the fabric a softly flecked, tweed-inspired character.

Worked side to side in separate pieces, the cardigan keeps shaping to a minimum, with stitches worked through the back loop creating a ribbed texture. Once the pieces are joined, a neat button and buttonhole band finishes the front.

Simple layers make a great backdrop for the cardigan’s texture and softly flecked colour. Scheepjes Colour Crafter also makes a great alternative base yarn to hold together with Trailway.

The pattern is available in sizes S–XXL, to fit bust measurements from 81–127cm (32–50in). The free PDF includes full written instructions, a measurements table and schematic, and is available in English (UK crochet terminology) and Dutch.
