Feeling festive
Use your leftovers to decorate your tree with these handmade baubles. The pattern includes instructions for a Christmas tree, reindeer, star, snowflake, present, candle and a stocking. All designs can be worked in two colours, with an optional third colour or beading on some motifs.
Motif patterns are charted, instructions for shaping are written.
Yarn: 8g DK yarn in MC, 3g DK yarn in CC, 2g CC2 (optional); 225m/100g, per bauble.
Shown in: A Little Bit Sheepish British Bluefaced Leicester DK in “Diana” (green) and “Minerva” (grey); 100% wool; 225m/100g.
Needles: 3.0 mm double pointed needles or circular needle(s) for working in the round on a small circumference; 60 cm length suggested for circular needle.
Notions: Crochet hook for cast on, tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker, stuffing, 1mm crochet hook, 54 beads to fit yarn (optional).
Skills: Emily Ocker cast on, working in the round, knit, increasing stitches, colourwork, adding beads (optional; instructions given) decreasing stitches, i-cord (instructions given), weaving in ends.
Gauge: 28sts and 32 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch.
For this pattern gauge is not essential- choose a needle size that gives a firm fabric which doesn’t let the stuffing show through. Differing gauges may affect the amount of yarn required.
Sizing: Finished bauble has a diameter of approximately 6.5 cm. Plus hanging loop.
