Fealty Hap
Fealty Hap is a nod to the traditional shawls that were made and worn in Shetland. Often knitted in laceweight, they were large and generally worn doubled over to make a warm, triangular shawl.

This version is crocheted with a simple two-row repeat to create an open, lace pattern. A shallow border is added in rounds to finish it off. The pattern has been written for three sizes, so you can make it to the size you need (photos are of Size 3).

The main body lace pattern is a an ode to the many whin (gorse) bushes I remember from childhood. The little clusters on the border represent the sea pink flowers that also dared to raise their heads in the harsh climate of North East Scotland.

Yarn:
Northampton Shear Lace by RiverKnits; 50g/ 350m/ 383yds; 100% Shetland. See table for required amounts. Sample is Size 3 and in shade Meadow Foxtail.
Size 1 - 270g/ 1890m/ 2065yds
Size 2 - 350g/ 2390m/ 2610yds
Size 3 - 425g/ 2950m/ 3230yds

4mm (US G/6) hook
5 x stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Blocking equipment (mats if you have them and up to 300 (350, 400) pins if you want to pull out every border edge cluster of sts)

Size 1 - 117 x 117cm/ 46 x 46”
Size 2 - 132 x 132cm/ 52 x 52”
Size 3 - 147 x 147cm/ 58 x 58”

Tension/ Gauge:
20 sts and 6.5 rows over 10cm/ 4” of Main Body two-row repeat.
