Meet Fauna.
A light, yet warm asymmetrical shawl that features alternating sections of stockinette and eyelet lace. An engaging yet simple knit, Fauna is the perfect layering piece to transition your wardrobe into fall and winter.

Fauna was inspired by a scene from the 2005 production of Pride and Prejudice in which Elizabeth Bennet is traveling through the English countryside with her aunt and uncle. As Lizzy looks up through the trees the sunlight streams through, dappled light and shadow falling over her face. I love the sense of joy and peace in this scene, and I wanted to recreate that feeling with Fauna. To do that, I chose a stitch pattern that played with light and shadow in a similar way while giving the knitter a simple yet rewarding knitting experience.

Suggested yarn: 4 skeins (560 yds/ 200 grams) of Brooklyn Tweed Shelter; pictured in Foothills
Needles: size US 7 (32” circular needle recommended)
Notions: Scissors, tapestry needle
Gauge: Stockinette st (after blocking): 18 sts and 26 rows = 4 in.
Eyelet lace section (after blocking): 16 sts and 8 rows = 4 in.
Finished size (after blocking): 61 in at widest point and 33 in at longest point

Notes:
Fauna is worked from the cast on point to the bind off edge, with increases on one edge of every right side row. After blocking, the increase edge stretches out, creating the asymmetrical shape.
