Farrow Rib Square and Cubed
by Nancy Lekx
Farrow Rib is my favorite kind of ribbing, and you can see it at the top of this cowl design. It doesn’t have quite the elasticity of a standard 1x1 or 2x2 rib, but it has more visual and textural interest. Farrow Rib is a 3-stitch multiple, and it features a column of stockinette, a column of garter stitch, and a column of reverse stockinette. I expanded the Farrow Rib pattern into a 9-stitch multiple and a 27-stitch multiple, and stacked these variations into a simple tube for a cowl. Three squared = 9, and 3 cubed = 27, so there’s the inspiration for the pattern’s name.
