The Farm Girl Hat’s pattern is simple enough to knit while traveling or watching tv, but has enough going on to keep you interested and give the hat a fun texture.

The hat begins with Farm Rope Ribbing which looks like a cable, but is simple to learn, fun to work, and does not require a cable needle. Then it moves on to the Seedlings in the Field pattern for the body of the hat, with rows of seedling stitch between a stockinette background and purled furrows.

The pattern includes 5 sizes, from child through adult XL (finished circumference 17 - 24”/ 43 - 61 cm).

Difficulty: Beginner
The hat is worked in the round using sock/ fingering yarn. The hat’s twisted ribbing looks like a cable, but does not require a cable needle, and it’s not hard to learn. The body of the hat is primarily stockinette, with a few pattern rows to create some texture and interest - both for the knitter and for the appearance. The seedling texture stitch is explained in the pattern.

Yarn selection: Because of the delicacy of the pattern, it will look best with a solid or tonal. A low-contrast handpainted yarn could work, as well. The texture would get lost in a highly variegated yarn.

Sizes:
XS/child: finished circumference 17”/ 43 cm
S/ teen, or women’s snug: finished circumference 19”/ 48 cm
M/ women’s regular: finished circumference 20.5”/ 52 cm
L/ women’s large: finished circumference 22.5”/ 56 cm
XL/ women’s extra large: finished circumference 24”/ 61 cm

About 2”/ 5 cm negative ease is recommended, depending on how snugly you like the hat to fit. So the XS size will be comfortable at least to a head circumference of 19”/ 48 cm.

Pattern support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you run into questions or problems.
