Fancie is a puff of simple elegance: A lightweight, yet warm, sweater that will look just as fabulous paired with jeans as it will with a cute skirt and pair of boots. Quick to knit and a delight to put on, you will reach for this sweater again and again.
This is a beginner-friendly pattern - or a quick knit for someone more experienced. Worked top down in the round, you can try the sweater on as you go to make sure you’re happy with the fit. The full sleeves add style but won’t get in your way. Plus, they require minimal shaping, which means minimal thinking, so you can just cruise on down the sleeve. Using bulky yarn, the sweater knits up fast so you can wear this not long after you start knitting.
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4)(5, 6, 7)(8, 9, 10) with finished bust of 28 (32.5, 36, 40)(44, 48, 52)(56.5, 59.5, 64)“/70 (81, 90, 100)(110, 120, 130)(141, 149, 160) cm
The pattern includes a “Choosing a size” section to make sure you get the happiest fit.
Gauge: 14 sts and 18 rounds to 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch
Yarn: Bulky-weight yarn, approximately 550 (625, 675, 725)(800, 900, 975)(1050, 1150, 1200) yards/500 (575, 625, 675)(750, 830, 900)(965, 1055, 1100) meters.
The yarn used for the sample is Wonderfluff, a “blown” yarn of 70% baby alpaca/23% nylon/7% merino wool, in color “Ripple Heather.” Similar yarns include Plymouth Yarn Aireado, Estelle Alpaca Drift, Wool and the Gang Feeling Good, Juniper Moon Farm Beatrix, Lana Grossa Alpaca Moda, Hobbii Divina, Lang Cloud, Schulana Lanalpaco, and Ice Yarns Baby Alpaca Air. See Yarnsub for a longer list of similar yarns. Test knitters using wool, wool blends, and cotton blends got good results as well.
Other fluffy bulky-weight yarns would work well with this pattern, too. The simple profile means that it can also be a good canvas for textured yarns like bouclé and speckled or variegated yarns that have lots of colors or high contrast.
Needles: US 11/8.0 mm and 10/6.0 mm and or size needed to achieve gauge plus one full US size smaller. This sweater is worked in the round.
You will need:
• 16”/40 cm circular needle in both sizes
• 24” or 32”/60 or 80 cm, as well as 40”/100 cm or size to knit comfortably for those working sizes 5 and up, and 60”/150 cm if working size 10, in both sizes.
• Needles in both sizes for your preferred method of working in the round for the sleeves and sleeve cuff, either dpns or a long circular needle for the Magic Loop method.
Notions: Marker for beginning of round + 3 additional markers; tapestry needle.
