Fairytale Pumpkins
Make your spooky season bold and beautiful with these vibrant pumpkins! Perfect for adding a pop of colour to your space, they’re a fabulously kitsch way to celebrate Halloween (or any holiday) and also make wonderfully fun gifts. Ideal for knitters wanting to expand on their colourwork skills and satisfyingly quick to make, these cute calabazas will brighten up your day.
Measurements: 6 x 30cm (circumference) / 2.3” x 12”
Gauge: N/A
Yarn & Materials
One 50g (100m/109 yds) ball each of Hobbii Friends Wool in the colours White (01), Pink (47), Hint of Pink (50) and Turquoise (94), oddments (less than 25g) of Rose (44).
You can make at least six pumpkins using this quantity of yarn.
This yarn can be substituted with any standard DK weight yarn in five different shades. This pattern looks best when worked with 100% wool yarn or very high-quality acrylic or wool/acrylic-blend yarn. It is best to avoid cotton or other plant-based yarns as these compositions do not ‘bond’ together and can make the Fair Isle design look untidy.
16” (40cm) circular knitting needles, a 3.5mm pair of needles, a stitch marker, polyester filling (less than 100g), a yarn needle, scissors. You may work this design or dpns if desired.
Skills & Abbreviations
CO = cast on (any type is fine, but a stretchy cast on such as the long tail method is ideal for this project)
PM: place marker
BO = bind off
K = knit stitch
RD = round
You will need to know how to knit in the round on circular needles and follow a colourwork chart. You will need to know how to join invisibly in the round by decreasing one st.
