Fairy Ring is a stranded colourwork hat for kids and adults, knitted from the bottom up in the round. The pattern is written for a beanie-style hat, but includes instructions for a slouchy fit if preferred.

The main yarn used for this design is a non-superwash 100% wool with a fair bit of tooth. If you wish to substitute yarn, I recommend choosing something that is 100% wool, either non-superwash and/or woollen spun.

How to Choose Your Size
The Fairy Ring Hat is designed to be worn with slight negative ease (smaller than the circumference of your head) so that it stays on neatly.

Note: The length(s) of circular needles required will depend on the size you are knitting, and how you prefer to work small circumferences in the round. You will need 1 long length if you prefer to use the magic loop technique, or you may prefer to use double-pointed needles (DPNs).

Notes: The yarn for the optional pom pom is not included in these metreage estimations. However, if you purchase the skeins recommended, you will have sufficient yarn left over to make a pom pom with MC and CC1 held together.

If you wish to make a slouchy hat, you will need a little more metreage of MC and CC1, but other yarn quantities will remain the same.
