Fairfax
A perfect shawl when there’s a chill in the air, Fairfax is a generous side-to-side crescent shawl knit primarily in garter garter stitch. It is light enough to be worn in Spring and Autumn around the shoulders and long enough to become a snuggly cowl wrapped around the neck in Winter. It’s elegance and texture make it a go-to accessory for day-to-evening wear for any body type and/or size.
The Fairfax Shawl Kit is available at www.cedarhillyarns.com.
Finished Measurements:
Approximately 86 inches (218.4 cm) by 23 inches (58.4 cm), blocked. This shawl could be blocked a bit larger or smaller, but after blocking it is still relatively elastic so additional lengthening is unnecessary. This is not a gauge-dependent pattern.
Materials:
The pattern requires 2 skeins of Journey by Cedar Hill Farm Company; (Shown here in the Norris Point colorway). Although the test knits did not require more than 820 yards, this pattern may require a full 876 yards (200g) depending on gauge.
Needles & Notions: US 6 (4mm) circular needles (24 to 32 inch); 7 closed stitch markers; 1 or more locking stitch markers to track increases, decreases, and edging repeats as needed; yarn needle.
Gauge: 24 stitches by 32 rows (garter stitch, blocked) in 4 inches (10 cm).
Construction Notes:
Fairfax is a side-to-side garter stitch shawl with bias shaping for the “wings” and a short-row center panel. The knit-on Shetland lace edging is joined seamlessly with the lower selvage edge as it is knit.
